Legal Title For A Harley Frame Swap?

by Kyle

I am simply wanting to build a Harley Chopper Bobber and have a question about the legalities of my decision.

I would like to buy a cheap Harley Sportster 1200 to transfer motor and transmission to a new frame built for a 250 rear tire.

Could take the neck off of the sportster and weld to the new frame so that the motor matches the frame, and the title without headache of licensing it or when being stopped?

Also, is this legal?

I mean after-all the only thing you you title on newer Harley is the motor anyway, right? But most say it is less headache if the motor matches the frame, and title in the first place.

If not, could it even be detected if the swap was done correctly even if it is illegal?

Answer to title question

You need to go to the DMV in your state and ask them what you need to do to properly title your 'special construction motorcycle build'. But I do know you need to keep receipts of every part you buy to help you get it properly titled.
