Check State Or Province Laws!
The article is awesome! Very informative, got me motivated so I'm sure anyone else who reads it will be the same. The only thing that is not mentioned is to check state or province laws on licensed motorcycle mechanics. In Canada, by law you have to be a red-seal journeyman motorcycle mechanic such as myself to own and operate such a business, especially if your doing out of province/state inspections for resale, builds, salvage.
Without this you can't run such a business unless you have a ticketed motorcycle mechanic on the books, then you can have up to three apprentices under him. Too many times in the past there have been "backyard" bike builders that are building, selling or just doing maintenance work and they get sued for someone that just got killed because the wheel fell off, or the welds broke on the frame.
In Canada, any structural fabrication on frame work has to be passed by a certified welder, then inspected by a journeyman motorcycle mechanic, and if it is a custom build it finally gets blue tagged from the province. This blue tag is a series of numbers and letters like a frame VIN but is documented by the registries. Hopefully this helps for future mechanics out there.
