2001 Harley Davidson Sporty

It all started on a cold stormy night in March of the year 2001. "I want a Harley Davidson" I said to myself. So I went to the local Harley shop and ordered a 2001 Sportster 883 Custom. I have never owned a bike before, or even rode one before, so what a perfect starter bike.

I waited 3 months for the bike to arrive, in the mean time ordered a set of Bassani Bad Ass Pipes and a stretched tank. I rode the bike from the Harley shop to my work and installed the pipes and tank that I had previuosly painted. It was cool looking, but not enough. after about a year, I bought a set of Buell heads, cylinders bored +.020" and a set of N-6 cams.

It runs like a scalded dog. 93hp at the rear wheels and 95ft lbs of torque. I have installed a 180" mm rear tire , 2" stretched swingarm and a set of 38 degree wide glide triple trees. I have also cut the frame and lowered to seat height 3" and installed an aftermarket oil tank. I work in a machine shop and see all these guys on TV making or buying cutom wheels, so I said "I can do that". So that is what I did.

A couple of months ago I started my own custom wheel and powder coating business on the side. "Side Money Choppers" is the name and custom one off wheels and powder coating is the game. Here is a picture of my sporty!

Agreed

Completely agree with Bullshit. There's no way your getting that out of an 883.....

My 98 1200 dynoed 71 ponies and that with HSR42 carb upgrade with hypercharger intake with upgraded slash-cut drags.

93? No way dude. Your imagination.

Did you just bolt on wide glide trees or rake the neck?

Bullshit
by: Anonymous

93hp at the rear wheels and 95ft lbs of torque? From 895 ci? Bullshit.

And no one would bore a brand new bike for a gain of 1.3% in displacement, When you can take an 883 to 1200 by boring and new pistons.

You have rear wheels? Most bikes have a rear wheel. You're just a bullshitting wannabe.

Now you've got me THINKIN'
by: Ralan Guyer

You know sometimes you get to looking at bike pics on the web and you see what some of these guys do to them, and they just don't look right when their finished with them. They look so distorted or even dumb as hell by the time they get all of their crazy ideas mounted on the bike! But I'd like to say that this is the best looking Sportster I've ever seen in my life hands down! When I was younger I said "I'll never buy one of those things." Well this one has appeal and curves to match!!! Thanx for letting me look... Ralan

Hey man nice sporty I'm in the process of doing some of the same types of mods you did. I would like to see more pics of the bike if that's possible and ask some about the build. Thanks man and good luck with the side business.

Another project
by: Kirk

The battery is located in front of the rear tire. I bolted it to the swingarm. It is a close fit, but the tire only rubs when I get up to 110mph. I do have plans for another project after the first of the year. I am building a 1941 Chevy rat rod right now to haul bikes and parts around. When that is complete I am going to start on another bike. Not sure what I am going to do yet though.

Nice sportster
by: broer

Hi mister Rodman. I like the way you lowered the seat height. And the stretched tank in my eyes looks perfect. Greetings from a sportster fan from the Netherlands.
